A proposed bill introduced in the Texas State legislature would protect those who film police in public and would prohibit a person from being prosecuted if they refuse to stop filming at the command of an officer.

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed legislation prohibiting a form of therapy aimed at changing a minor’s sexual orientation from gay to straight, the first law of its kind in the nation, officials said Sunday. Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) introduced the measure based on his belief that so-called conversion therapy isn't based on science and is dangerous. “This bill bans non-scientific ‘therapies’ that have driven young people to depression and suicide,'' Brown said in a statement. ``These practices have no basis in science or medicine and they will now be relegated to the dustbin of quackery."

Politicians in Florida have passed a bill banning all sex with animals. The bill designed to combat bestiality makes it an offense to engage in sexual activity with "animals".

OK already has a law that allows those convicted of cultivating or selling marijuana to be sentenced with up to life in prison. Reason's Matt Welch weighs in.

A bill in the Utah state legislature that has passed both the House and Senate this week now awaits Governor Gary Herbert's signature- and will make it a crime for a woman to have a miscarriage, as well as make induced abortions a crime in some instances.

A sweeping bill overhauling the U.S. medical system goes to President Obama's desk on Monday to be signed into law. A bill passed Wednesday will make it illegal in Florida to sell the drug paraphernalia in most head shops. The so-called "Bong Bill" passed by the Senate and then overwhelmingly passed 115-0 in the House now heads to Gov. Crist for final approval.

“The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton [above] will introduce a so called ‘assault weapons’ ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its ‘lame duck’ session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police..."
