The only thing that may eventually save the antiwar activists subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury may be jury nullification.

What could possibly be more conducive to "…protecting the integrity of the jury system…" than informing juries of one of their powers? Does the judge not want to see the jury system working as it should, as a check on tyrannical government? It would seem not, otherwise he would welcome the FIJA activists educational efforts at his court. Obviously, the judge likes his juries obedient and easily manipulated.

In the face of the government's attempts to silence antiwar activism, libertarians and socialists came together to protest. The object of their outrage was the series of raids conducted by the FBI on antiwar activists in Minnesota, Chicago, Michigan, and North Carolina; and the issuance of subpoenas to appear before a grand jury to many of the same. While the government claims that the raids are seeking evidence of material support of terrorism, the peace activists insist that it is a fishing expedition intended to harass.

Prominent peace, truth, and liberty activists, John Bush of Texans for Accountable Government and Matthew Medina of We Are Change, were arrested for not jumping when a power-tripping cop asks them to jump.

On August 19th Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced that he will drop the charges against the recently arrested Food Not Bombs activists. This includes 25 people charged with violating Orlando’s Large Group Feeding Ordinance as well as two trespass arrests.

Jury nullification, a legal concept that dates back to 17th century England, remains perfectly lawful in the United States, according to a ruling by a federal judge last month.
U.S. District Court Judge Kimba Wood said 80-year-old Julian Heicklin, who was arrested by FBI agents for passing out pamphlets marked "Jury Info" from an organization known as the Fully Informed Jury Association to an undercover agent, was within his legal rights under law to do so. Prosecutors had argued that Heicklin was in violation of U.S. law, which prohibits influencing jurors through written communication.

Phoenix Jones aka Benjamin Fodor aka mixed-martial arts fighter "Flatttop" arrested early Sunday for assault. The City Attorney's Office is reviewing the case. Police say Fodor, 23, used pepper spray on a group of men and women early Sunday near the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The incident was caught on video. A spokesman for Phoenix Jones, said it appears the officer who arrested Jones had an agenda, and that when Jones said he was assaulted the officer laughed at him. He also said police have refused to take statements two people who were following Jones.

Orlando Liberty Activists are still stirring the pot around town with many of them doing near daily FIJA outreach events at the county and federal courthouses. The biggest impact has been made at the county... "You guys are idiots", "You're making it impossible to pick a jury", "Hey, can I get one of those? They're dismissing everyone who has one" are all common phrases heard.
