During an update to the state's driving laws, the Texas legislature inadvertently removed the penalty for driving without a license plate. What was formerly a $200 fine now has no penalty. The new law goes into effect on January 1, 2012, and they won't be able to update it until January of 2013.

PROBABLY HOMELESS AND LOOKING FOR SHELTER. A 38-year-old man brought a prescription pill to the police station Monday and asked to be arrested for drug possession. Christopher Dennis Dollar came into the police station lobby and handed the pill to an officer, according to a news release from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. He told the officer that he needed to be arrested for possession of Xanax without a prescription. Dollars was charged with a third-degree felony for possession of drugs without a prescription.

A Texas state trooper stops a 1990 Mercedes with an expired registration sticker. The driver says he does not have his driver's license or proof of insurance. After arresting him for "failure to identify," the trooper searches him and his car, finding 14 grams (half an ounce) of marijuana and hashish. Indicted for possession with intent to deliver, he could be sent to prison for the rest of his life.

A teenager is arrested for wanting to protect his family. A neglectful mother was reported for endangering her 2 year old. When police decided to remove this child, her son distracted the officers allowing the mother to escape. We're not given details of the 'distraction', but I guess it was only a plea to not loose his sibling. He is being held at $2500 and faced with allegations that could cost $10K & TEN years in prison! The real reason, it seems, that the mother escaped was because she was allowed to get items for the child in her house on her own.
