Neatly trimmed lawns and fixed picket fences could soon be the order of the day for not only homeowners in New York, but across America, if they want to avoid hefty fines and even jail time. In January, Linda Ruggles, 53, from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, was sentenced to ten days in jail after failing to pay a $480 fine for a having a messy yard. A month later, a Florida man was reportedly sentenced to a year and one day in jail after he failed to remove litter from the front of his house.

SANFORD, Fla.— A man who defied officials for more than 13 years by refusing to remove airplane parts and other junk from his yard was sentenced to three years in prison.

Alan Wayne Davis, 49, had been placed on house arrest in September after serving nearly a year in prison for illegal dumping and creating and maintaining a public nuisance.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Davis to three years in prison for violations of his house arrest, including failing to return home from work on time and keeping part of a World War II fighter plane in his yard.

Municipal Court Judge Mark Mihok charged Durrell Brooks with contempt of court Thursday and gave him three days in jail. Mihok said he saw that Brooks’ pants were down and he could see his underwear.

"I don't have a dress code," Mihok said. "People can wear really whatever they want, but they have to cover up. I can't accept people showing their underwear in a courtroom."

Brooks was the third person in a month to be sent to jail by Mihok for sagging. He said one man's pants were so low that they weren't even touching the seat when he sat down.

Zachrey Harris will serve 20 days in jail and spend two years on probation for using racial slurs against a Nigerian student a Boulder district judge has ruled.

A rural Oregon man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail and over $1,500 in fines because he had three reservoirs on his property to collect and use rainwater. Gary Harrington of Eagle Point, Ore., says he plans to appeal his conviction in Jackson County (Ore.) Circuit Court on nine misdemeanor charges under a 1925 law for having what state water managers called “three illegal reservoirs” on his property – and for filling the reservoirs with rainwater and snow runoff.

A man with a record of domestic violence was found to have violated a court order from "causing plaintiff or the child of the parties to suffer physical and/or mental abuse, harassment, annoyance or bodily injury."
The plaintiff was his estranged wife, and the violation was for a post on Facebook. The judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine, but waived it if he apologized on Facebook, and left it there for 30 days.

Florida judge gives an 18 year old gal 30 days in jail. The judge was acting extremely rude towards teen for no reason. Only after the judge has multiple instances of unwarranted attitude towards the teen, she flips him off.
The worst part about this is most of the media sources including this one think this judge’s actions are acceptable!

On September 8, Gregory Koger was sentenced to 300 days in jail for videotaping a brief political statement at a public event in Skokie, IL. When Gregory was asked to stop, he put down his video camera. Trespass charges were brought because he started filming with his iPhone. But videotaping is not a crime! Filming has nothing to do with the legal definition of trespass. The trespass law states that you must be ordered to leave, and then show that you intend to remain after you have been given notice to leave.
