After enacting an insanely strict dress code, a public high school suspended 169 students for violations. The mass number of suspensions sparked protests and disobedience.

Maryellen McGorry, principal of Manchester West High School, was suspended some time last week. The story was broken earlier today by the Union Leader, which provided no explanation for the former prosecutor turned administrator’s sudden suspension. The UL quotes Manchester mayor Ted Gatsas, who publicly announced the penalty. Maryellen McGorry was the key witness for the prosecution in prosecutor Michael Valentine’s theatrical performance State v Adam Mueller.

Wrong on several levels, it is humiliating, and it was organized by Rosemount High School administrators. And, yes, it took place in view of the children at the school, because it was during an assembly. The students were blindfolded, and then told that “someone” was going to kiss them. The “someone” was their own parents.

In testimony to Congress Wednesday, US Education Secretary Arne Duncan made a startling claim: This year, up to 82 percent of public schools could "fail" the government's "No Child Left Behind" standards.

"No Child Left Behind is broken and we need to fix it now," he said, according to a transcript provided by the Department of Education.

High school teachers in Central Falls, RI could be out of a job. The Superintendent of the Central Falls school district has laid down a firm demand with the teachers union. Spend more time with the students, in and out of the classroom or else they'll be looking for work.

The LA school system has banned flavored milk because it leads to obesity when consumed in large quantities (and without proper exercise). A Virginia father said he was outraged his son was suspended for possessing a plastic bag of oregano at his middle school.

The bag of oregano, which resembled marijuana, was labeled an "imitation controlled substance" by the school and four students were suspended.
