April 20 is the counter-culture “holiday” on which lots and lots of people come together to advocate marijuana legalization (or just get high). Should drugs—especially marijuana—be legal? The answer is “yes.” Immediately. Without hesitation. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 seized in a civil asset forfeiture. The war on drugs has been a dismal failure. It’s high time to end prohibition. Even if you aren’t willing to go whole-hog and legalize all drugs, at the very least we should legalize marijuana.

The president said the traditional war on drugs had failed over the past half century, and that the United States' inability to deal with its drug consumption problem left Central America with no option but to promote legalizing drugs in some way.

MEXICO CITY (Aug. 10) -- A former Mexican president's proposal to legalize drugs to reduce cartel-related violence is stoking an increasingly desperate policy debate within Mexico and in Washington.

California's Legislature is considering a bill that would make it the first state to legalize marijuana for recreational use as well. It is unlikely to pass this year, but Gray and other advocates hope to have a proposition on the November ballot that would legalize marijuana use for anyone 21 or older.

Libertarians are often marginalized, typically by the right, for wanting to legalize drugs. ”Whaddya wanna have HEROIN in vending machines!?!”, as some have ridiculously asked.
And while it’s true that Libertarians don’t support government action for dealing with a drug problem, it isn’t usually true that we think that people should use HARD drugs.

Former President Vicente Fox said that Mexico is the time to study with a commitment to legalize use of drugs, which would result in the reduction of criminal violence.

California’s Tax Cannabis 2010 campaign announced today that they have submitted nearly 700,000 signatures to qualify their initiative for the November 2010 ballot. The initiative seeks to make personal possession (up to 1 oz.) and cultivation (up to 25 square feet) legal for adults 21 and up. The proposal also gives cities and counties the option to legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana sales.

In 1970, the federal government listed pot to be more harmful than cocaine and meth. We now know that isn't true.
