The federal government is requiring communities around the USA to change signs from all capital letters to a combination of capital and lowercase letters. The government says that makes them easier to read. Signs that fail to meet minimum standards must be replaced.

Move puts burden of paying for sewage system upgrades on District residents. So now the residents of DC, most of whom, believe it or not, are poor and middle class, must pay for the upgrades to the DC sewage system. These upgrades are required by...the federal government. Various government agencies are calling the fees "an impermissible tax of the federal government."

WE ARE writing because we have noticed an extreme and alarming change to our state government. We used to think that New Hampshire government, a pretty local enterprise given the small size of our state, was a true government of and by the people. But strange things are happening in our State House, sometimes so quickly that nobody has time to react.

"We hear it day in and day out: the government sucks, federal employees are lazy and their positions are redundant," said march organizer Steve Ressler, founder of GovLoop, a social networking Web site for public servants.

There’s been no federal government for more than a year, but the country is continuing to grow and outperform the single currency bloc as a whole.

Land banks are government entities that buy, sell and demolish real estate properties. Bernanke is encouraging the creation of Federal Land Bank, which could make the Federal Government the landlord of many renters.

For the past three decades, Uncle Sam has been providing a handful of patients with some of the highest grade marijuana around. The program grew out of a 1976 court settlement that created the country’s first legal pot smoker.

Advocates for legalizing marijuana or treating it as a medicine say the program is a glaring contradiction in the nation’s 40-year war on drugs — maintaining the federal ban on pot while at the same time supplying it.

Just days after we wrote about a study that showed more government funding of the press leads to less reporting on government corruption, along comes the Washington Post with an editorial saying it's time to have the federal government fund more journalism. I wonder how Watergate would have turned out if the Washington Post was relying on Nixon for cash...

Bowing to growing budget concerns and months of Republican political pressure on federal pay and benefits, President Obama today announced he would stop pay increases for most of the two million people who work for the federal government.
