By the time U.S. astronauts return to the moon they may need permission to touch down -- from China, which is laying the groundwork for a lunar land grab, says long-time space advocate and entrepreneur Robert Bigelow.

Owning the moon is the first step in a game Bigelow, founder of Nevada-based Bigelow Aerospace, calls "Solar System Monopoly."

An engineer who created plans of working replica for the starship Enterprise has created a petition for NASA to consider the project.

The engineer suggests that the 3,000 foot-long ship be built in space and not land on the surface of any moon or planet so that it would never need to reach escape velocity. The ship would use on-board nuclear reactors, cutting down cost of fuelling the ship. He estimates his re-design of the Enterprise would be able to travel to the moon in a mere three days, and Mars in three months.

Now that the last space shuttle has landed back on Earth, a new generation of space entrepreneurs would like to whip up excitement about the prospect of returning to the Moon.

A policy decision made by unaccountable government bureaucrats is retarding scientific progress by denying physicists data from meteoroids that enter Earth's atmosphere. Data on these objects are collected by military satellites intended to detect nuclear weapons tests over oceans.

Despite the onslaught of politicians attempting to project an air of question around man-made climate change, studies continue to emerge proving the connection between human actions and our changing environment. The most recent study, published in Nature Climate Change, finds an "anthropogenic fingerprint" (human influence) on our warming oceans. The study, "Human-Induced Global Ocean Warming On Multidecadal Timescales," was conducted by researchers in the U.S., Australia, Japan and India.

So why on earth are we using uranium? As you may recall, research into the mechanization of nuclear reactions was initially driven not by the desire to make energy, but by the desire to make bombs. And here we come to it: Thorium reactors do not produce plutonium, which is what you need to make a nuke.How ironic.
The fact that thorium reactors could not produce fuel for nuclear weapons meant the better reactor fuel got short shrift, yet today we would love to be able to clearly differentiate a country’s nuclear reactors from its weapons program.

The GAO has released its conclusion on a study commissioned to study a Pentagon study on its own studies. The study's conclusion was that the study of studies was ineffective. The taxpayer-funded cost for the worthless studies was not released, however.
