Cody Wilson, like many Texan gunsmiths, is fast-talkin’ and fast-shootin’—but unlike his predecessors in the Lone Star State, he’s got 3D printing to help him with his craft. Wilson’s nonprofit organization, Defense Distributed, released a video this week showing a gun firing off over 600 rounds—illustrating what is likely to be the first wave of semi-automatic and automatic weapons produced by the additive manufacturing process. Last year, his group famously demonstrated that it could use a 3D-printed “lower” for an AR-15—but the gun failed after six rounds.

The woman tells me right away that my milk might have to go through the x-ray, and then I tell her I printed the rules. I go to grab the rules on top of my bag and she freaks out and pushes my arm away. Another guy comes over and calls for “back up” and they put in me back in the glass cage. Standing 50 ft away are the same manager and supervisor I had dealt with the previous week. I then begged him to read the TSA rules I had printed out. He read the first form which stated that medical liquids can have alternate screening (no x-ray).

Why fear of 3D printed guns is overblown

Despite worries about the dangers of 3D printed firearms, there's little chance of anyone with a MakerBot gunning people down. Even gun-control advocates think the hype is too much.

Additive manufacturing techniques may make conventional manufacturing obsolete with new 3D printers. "Printed" violins that play and "printed" clocks that tick.

FTA: 'If we as a country, and indeed we as a global community, are going to seriously address the question of gun control, we need to address the issue of fabricated weapons and weapon plans, or else the discussion will be moot. This is because the proliferation of 3D printed weaponry changes both the definition of “gun” and of what it means to “control” it.'

Congressman wants the TSA to enact more insane and pointless regulations on light aircraft rather than rolling them back, even though he admits that nothing will stop a determined pilot from crashing his aircraft into a building.
