The mother of a 13-year-old Montgomery County middle school student is demanding an apology from a teacher who had school police escort the youngster from a classroom for refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance.

I'm in 9th grade at Booker High School in Sarasota, FL. In my first period class every morning over the intercom a voice says "Now, Booker High students please stand for the pledge." Well my friend and I sat, and didn't say anything. We believe the pledge is a waste of time and we have a right not to stand because of our beliefs. My teacher saw us and told us to stand, but we refused. So he pulled my friend and I out of class and scolded us "Now, I don't care what you believe in!! It's school policy to stand! SO STAND." Well I have a right not to stand.

An appellate court has rejected arguments that the pledge of allegiance violates the wall of separation between church and state. Judge Bea said schools do not require students to recite the pledge. When I was 10 I was given detention for asking what the words actually meant and refusing to stand until I understood. Even without this phrase "under God" the pledge is designed to inculcate the most nefarious form of idolatry, the worship of an omnipotent, omniscient omnibenevolent government.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Six Republican members of the Oregon House have introduced a bill that would put an American flag in every public classroom and give students an opportunity to read or recite the Pledge of Allegiance each school day.

Currently, Oregon public schools are only required to have an American and Oregon flag near the school building. Schools are also required to give students a chance to salute the flag, but only once a week.

But House Bill 3014, which was introduced Thursday, would change that if passed. Six of the 26 Republicans in the Oregon House are sponsoring the bill.

Three parents were arrested last week because their children had been truant too many times, officials said Wednesday. The consequences for parents arrested for their child's truancy include up to one year in county jail and/or a $2,000 fine for each child not in compliance. "Sometimes we have to reinforce the idea that it is a crime to not send your child to school," said Chief Deputy DA Karen Bell. "We don't want to take that route, but some parents force our hand and give us no other choice but to file criminal charges."

A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched last week to a Florida elementary school after a girl kissed a boy during a physical education class.

School brass actually reported the impromptu buss as a possible sex crime, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Pledge is this: "I shall always do my best to take part in only actions that do not require anyone to suffer harm and I will support others in our community who endorse this Pledge."
