The new Pope, Francis, may shape up to be a Neocon nightmare.

The War Party of course was probably hoping for the equivalent of an Innocent IV, who might carry on the tradition of Innocent III, the pope of the Albigensian Crusade and other militarist horrors. No such luck, it seems.

Given Pope Francis' overall background, it's extremely likely that he'll continue the antiwar policies of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

The dark horse issue for the 2012 election cycle is Ron Paul’s influence over the delegate count for the Republican Party. Most people do not realize that the Republican primary races do not determine the nominee in the various states. Playing on fear is exactly what’s happening. The political class of Versailles DC needs to give people a reason to need them. Because, really, We The People don’t need them. Take this recent terror threat; and just one weekend prior to the election.

Famous security expert Bruce Schneier responds to the TSA's recently-implemented security theater measures. Bruce knows real security comes from openness and freedom - not privacy invasion and cameras. From the article:

The City of Chicago’s forfeiture processes violate due process. The rules are arcane, obscure, and hard to find, and people who actually try to follow them are essentially thwarted by the CPD’s rules and failure to tell people how to do anything. Also, the City sends forfeiture notices to the residences of people in jail, and refuses to check the jail records to see if any of the notices returned involved people in jail. Gates v. Yesterday, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rolled out new nationwide rules for traveler pat-downs. Want to keep your genitalia private by avoiding the new backscatter security scanners? You can request a pat-down instead, but the TSA is intent on making sure you won't enjoy it. The new rules require agents to pay renewed attention to your crotch, and their hands won't stop until they meet testicular resistance. (No word on quite how far they'll go should you lack said testicles.)

Reversing a near decade-long ban, Amtrak will allow passengers to bring guns on most trains starting next month. The change, pushed by gun-rights advocates and ordered by Congress, aligns Amtrak’s firearm policy with air travel rules that allow unloaded guns to be stored in locked baggage holds. Federal Homeland Security officials on Monday said they are OK with guns being on trains as long as security protocols are enforced. "It’s deemed safe and appropriate," federal Transportation Security Administration spokesman Nico Melendez said. "If people follow the rules, it’s pretty simple."

More evidence of blatant anti-Paul bias in the GOP. Truly underhanded. One can argue that the Ron Paul stealth strategy is "playing the system", but that is within the rules. This stuff going on now is obviously out of bounds.

Maybe he can't win. Because the GOP may not allow him to win, no matter what they have to stoop to in order to insure he doesn't derail the gravy train.
