"Sobriety checkpoints, like the one in San Pablo, have increasingly become profitable operations that are far more likely to seize cars from unlicensed — and often illegal immigrant — motorists, than to catch drunken drivers."

The problem with these checkpoints is that they're warrantless, arbitrary searches. This goes against all standards of civilized behavior and is not tolerable in a free society. Not only are checkpoints violating our rights they're not effective. "Traditional police patrols are three times more likely to locate genuinely impaired drivers than these suspicionless checkpoints," according to James Babb, founder of the Valley Forge Revolutionaries. "So not only are these checkpoints blatantly immoral and illegal, they're also a waste of police time and tax dollars.

These checkpoints were ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. Of course, none of that matters because police officers do whatever they want.

A memo titled the "Bell Police Department Baseball Game," assigns "singles," "doubles," "triples" and "home runs" to increasingly more serious infractions, starting with parking tickets and moving on to vehicle impounds and felony arrests of drivers. Police officers competed to issue tickets, impound cars and arrest motorists.

Checkpoints (some would say illegal checkpoints) have been popping up quite frequently in the USA. As you see in this video, you DO NOT have to comply with their question's or demands. Don't forget, you have rights.

The proposed California law, AB1942, would promote safer driving habits and reduce accidents by permitting video recorders to be installed on the windshield.

Florida is among several states now holding what are called "no refusal" checkpoints. It means if you refuse a breath test during a traffic stop, a judge is on site, and issues a warrant that allows police to perform a mandatory blood test.

SEATTLE -- Cars are becoming more and more fuel-efficient, and you would think that's a good thing. But Washington state is actually losing money because of it and as a result, the state is now considering a "pay-by-mile" tax. The state predicts gas tax collected today won't add up to enough cash to pay for future road projects. Drivers of fuel-efficient cars are spending less at the pump, which means they are paying less in gas tax while driving the same amount of miles.

Uber, SideCar and Lyft Fined, Uber Also Sued by Taxi Drivers

It hasn’t been a good week for San Francisco taxi and ride-share apps.

On November 9, two taxi drivers filed what they hope will be certified as a class action lawsuit against Uber stemming from its months-old taxi service in the city.

Yesterday afternoon, Uber, SideCar and Lyft were fined $20,000 each by the California Public Utilities Commission for operating what the state considers unlicensed charter car businesses.
