So, as I've talked about here before, ferrets are illegal in California. However, we've long known that there is a special permit you can get for them if you are active duty military making a PCS move. Being responsible people who are moving to California soon, we called the relevant bureau and asked for an application for special military permission to transport our ferret. They knew what we were talking about and (eventually!) sent out the forms this month.

Lowering speed limits. Closing drive-through lanes. Slapping extra fees on owners of smog-belching vehicles.
Those are among the strategies often talked about to reduce air pollution in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Military planners see a future of endless small-scale interventions in which a large, geographically dispersed collection of bases will always be primed for instant operational access. With bases in as many places as possible, military planners want to be able to turn to another conveniently close country if the United States is ever prevented from using a base.... Pentagon officials dream of nearly limitless flexibility, the ability to react with remarkable rapidity to developments anywhere on Earth, and thus, something approaching total military control over the planet.

A bill now being considered for approval by the California State Senate could cost families and people who hire others to help around the house. Called the "Domestic Workers Bill of Rights", the point of the bill is to "extend basic, humane labor protections to thousands of nannies, caregivers, and housecleaners. This legislation helps us to bring a critical workforce out of the shadows and into the light of day."
[No word on the estimated amount of "tax revenue" would be collected.]

FTA: Under the bill, school districts would report the number of students who aren't attending class or who have more than 10 absences to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Teenagers who can prove they work to support their family, or are 17 and joined the military, are exempt. For underage students who can't prove an exemption, a letter is mailed informing the teen his or her license is suspended.

The Senate is gearing up for a vote on Monday or Tuesday that goes to the very heart of who we are as Americans. The Senate will be voting on a bill that will direct American military resources not at an enemy shooting at our military in a war zone, but at American citizens and other civilians far from any battlefield — even people in the United States itself.

The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president—and every future president — the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world.

As Manhattan-dwellers know, there's been a debate brewing for some time now over the cycle lanes, and the police who ticket cyclists, so Neistat's video set out to show the world just how difficult it can be sticking to the rules.
