Faced with widespread public outrage and even death threats after the release of a video of a February marijuana raid in which two dogs were shot, one killed and one wounded, by SWAT team members in a family home with a young child present, the Columbia, Missouri, Police Department Monday moved to dampen the uproar. At a press conference, Chief Ken Burton announced he was immediately imposing new restrictions on the way the department serves search warrants.

Yesterday, the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department announced that its internal review found that its officers did nothing wrong in the SWAT raid on Berwyn Heights, Maryland Mayor Cheye Calvo’s home.

Last week, Mitch and I sat down with Jonathan “Ryan” March whose home was raided by the Columbia, MO S.W.A.T. team in 2008. The S.W.A.T. team was at his home to look for marijuana. Ryan had no prior felonies and no history of violence. During the raid, Ryan’s two retreating dogs were shot and killed. You may have been able to black out the horrific police raid in which a pit bull was shot to death and a 7-year-old boy was held at gunpoint, but Jonathan Whitworth and his family apparently can't. Whitworth is suing the city of Columbia and several police officers, claiming his family's constitutional rights were violated.

OVER-THE-RHINE, Ohio - Cincinnati Police Chief Tom Streicher says a woman has died after she was run over by a cruiser driven by a Cincinnati police officer in Over-the-Rhine on Tuesday.

Streicher says the officer was patrolling Washington Park when he made a turn off of a walking path and accidentally struck the woman.
Family members identify the victim as 48-year-old Joann Burton.
Witnesses tell 9 News Burton was lying on the ground in blankets when she was run over by the cruiser around 11:45 a.m.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank has issued an apology after narcotics detectives raided the wrong home and pointed a gun at its 76-year-old female resident. Burbank said the woman was not injured when the search warrant was executed late Wednesday night, but one officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. "She's certainly had the event of a lifetime, and one that I am very sorry that she had to experience at all," Burbank said.

Members of a SWAT team opened fire on an unarmed teenage girl this week when police officers outside of Washington, DC attempted to serve an early morning search warrant.

A 21 year old man named Trevon Cole was fatally shot by Las Vegas police in his apartment while he was attempting to flush some marijuana down the toilet. The complaint says that members of the SWAT team spent the day drinking before engaging in the raid.
