How some simple hill folk from the southern mountains have been living free for over 200 years without the letting the government tell them how to live. While drafting the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote "our fellow subjects," then scrubbed it out and replaced it with "our fellow citizens", showing an evolution of thought.

On June 26th 2010 the seeds of a voluntary society were sown in Lancaster New Hampshire. Participants in the annual Porcupine Freedom Festival held a signing ceremony to inaugurate their founding document, The Shire Society Declaration, which some have called a new declaration of independence.

Several times I've heard Ian and Mark talking about "making a new Declaration of Independence", most recently on the show Monday, 2001-02-22.Well, guys, what do you think of this one?

More than 11,000 people have signed the Vienna Declaration which calls on the world’s politicians to let policies on illicit drugs to be guided by scientific evidence which proves the prohibition on drugs such as heroin is a failure. “I think there’s a real recognition in the scientific community that there’s an ethical obligation to start speaking out about this,” said Dr. Evan Wood of the B.C. Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS at UBC and a co-author of the Vienna Declaration.

On June 26th 2010 a group of sovereign individuals enter voluntarily together to form a new society. Will this end up being a very important historical event in the future, only time will tell. Witness this event and see what it is all about.

Sunday's referendum in southern Sudan gives voters a choice between staying united with the rest of Sudan or becoming an independent country. Most analysts predict southerners will choose independence. The new country would be Africa's first since Eritrea won independence in 1993.
