This site is one component of the new National Police Misconduct Reporting Project (NPMRP). The purpose of the project is to gather news reports about police misconduct in America in a fair and unbiased way. The objective is to study the scope of the problem and to identify policies that can minimize misconduct.

Sadly, while this may seem like a strange surge in cases starting out this year, it actually isn’t abnormal. Last year’s statistical report revealed that sexual misconduct reports against police were the second most common type of police misconduct report for the 8.5 months that we tracked reports in 2009 and that nearly half of those 500+ sexual misconduct reports involved the sexual abuse of children.

More Los Angeles police officers who have used excessive force, driven while intoxicated, falsely imprisoned people or committed other serious misconduct are being let off without punishment, by a new approach to discipline at the LAPD. Called "Conditional Official Reprimand", instead of handing down suspensions without pay, as was the norm for such offenses, police officials are putting officers on notice that another gaffe of the same sort will bring a severe penalty and possible termination.

That rate is over two times the rate of the general public (28.7 per 100,000). The fact that rapists seem to be concentrated among a group of armed individuals who have the purported authority to detain and arrest other individuals, should be more than a little alarming for even the most prolific bootlicker.
