An Oklahoma high school valedictorian who used the word "hell" in her graduation speech in May has yet to receive her diploma.

The penalty for the gesture by Cathedral High School quarterback Matthew Owens in Saturday's Division 4A Super Bowl left the losing team Tuesday waiting for word from the state association on whether the school could challenge the referee's decision.

Blue Hills Regional Technical School won the game 16-14. That school's athletic director, Ed Catabia, told The Boston Globe that the referee made "a great call, the right call."

High school teachers in Central Falls, RI could be out of a job. The Superintendent of the Central Falls school district has laid down a firm demand with the teachers union. Spend more time with the students, in and out of the classroom or else they'll be looking for work.

A tiny Texas school district may be the first in the nation to pass a law specifically allowing teachers and staff to pack heat when classes begin later this month.

"Teachers at the lower Manhattan school said that the day began with a fight between two students on the building’s third floor. After the fight, Bergtraum principal Andrea Lewis reportedly announced over the school’s loud speaker that in the future, students who fought would be arrested. Lewis reportedly told students and staff that for the rest of the day, the school’s bathrooms would be closed and teachers should not issue bathroom passes."

"So in Duncan (South Carolina), it's against the law to cheer for your kid during the graduation ceremonies. In the past, parents and relatives who cheered were escorted by cops from the stadiums."

Staff to be removed during probe at LA school

LOS ANGELES – The entire staff at an elementary school where two teachers were arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct will be removed while the school district investigates, the Los Angeles school superintendent said Monday night.

Superintendent John Deasy told parents and media that 88 teachers and 40 support staff at Miramonte Elementary School are being replaced because a full investigation of allegations is disruptive and staffers will require support to get through the scandal.

A Cincinnati high school is paying its students to come to school.

The Dohn Community High School has launched a $40,000 incentive program to get students to come to class.

The school’s CEO Ken Furrier told CBS Cleveland that students will get Visa gift cards for showing up every day for school, being on time for class and not getting into trouble. Seniors would get $25 while underclassmen would get $10.
