PHILADELPHIA — No criminal charges will be filed against a suburban Philadelphia school district that secretly snapped tens of thousands of webcam photographs and screen shots on laptops issued to students.

The FBI and federal prosecutors announced Tuesday they could not prove any criminal wrongdoing by Lower Merion School District employees.

CU-Boulder students arrested on 4/20 to fight charges on First Amendment grounds. Peacefully exercising their right to assemble, and freedom of speech on the grass of their own public university; these three honest students were taken to county jail. The students pleaded not guilty, and plan to file motion to dismiss. It may, and will go to a jury trial if need be.

An "independent" investigation into the Lower Merion School District laptop scandal has concluded that there's no evidence that students were being spied on. This is despite the existence of 58,000 photos surreptitiously taken of students on or around their computers and e-mails between district IT people commenting on the entertainment value of the photos.

Pa. school snapped thousands of pictures of students with remote viewing software that was on laptops owned by the school and given to students for outside of school work.

A few weeks ago, Frontline premiered a documentary called "Digital Nation". In one segment, the vice-principle of Intermediate School 339, Bronx, NY, Dan Ackerman, demonstrates how he "remotely monitors" the students' laptops for "inappropriate use".
He says "They don't even realize we are watching," "I always like to mess with them and take a picture," and "9 times out of 10, THEY DUCK OUT OF THE WAY."

Three Liberty High School students were expelled for possession of what police and district officials say they suspect is marijuana on Jan. 13, 20 and 21.School employees found a 15-year-old student in possession of a small amount of marijuana on campus Jan. 13.

The Prince George's County prosecutors have dropped charges against two University of Maryland students they claimed struck mounted Park Police officers and their horses after a basketball game in March. A video shot by another student, meanwhile, shows police beating one of those students without apparent provocation.

LEBANON — The Mason High School teacher accused of sexual misconduct with five students was released early Tuesday afternoon on her own recognizance and warned to stay away from students. If convicted on all charges, Schuler could be sentenced to up to 81 years in jail.

Education Department officials are threatening school principals with lawsuits if they fail to monitor and curb students’ lunchtime chat and evening Facebook time for expressing ideas and words that are deemed by Washington special-interest groups to be harassment of some students.
