Today, we live in a world of the progressives’ creation, somewhere halfway between socialism and liberty. It is a volatile mixture. It is a world increasingly ruled by force; force wielded by a powerfully armed government. Whether it is the force of the income tax, the force of compulsory education, the force of regulation, or the force of law enforcement the effects are clear to all willing to see: a society becoming sicker and more aggressive.

The city council where I live is deciding whether to allow things that already exist. They voted no the first time around because the owner did't beg for permission. The council is hell bent on deciding what can be done on private property and making sure the owner knows who's in charge. Again, government fails at all levels and crushes entrepeneurs.

The government of the United States has proved destructive to stability, justice and order. Indeed, all governments ultimately devolve into some form of tyranny, chaos, or both. It is time to discard government as we know it entirely.

I have come to believe that a limited government, of the kind argued for by many libertarians, is a dead end. I’m talking about the people who argue that a government’s sole functions should be to provide national defence, policing, and the courts.

Two Lakeland police officers say they used lethal force when a man made a move for his gun in Thursday night's fatal shooting.

But the dead man's girlfriend says that's not how it happened and that her boyfriend shouldn't have been shot.

Police officers in Lansing, Michigan are in hot water after an investigative report by local ABC News affiliate WXYZ.

According to the report's source, officers with the OMNI Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on the home of Rudy Simpson in June 2008, and found a small bag of marijuana and half a pain pill that he'd been prescribed.

While talking about what they should do, officers began to eye the expensive recording equipment around Simpson's home, ultimately deciding that they could very well take everything if they wanted thanks to the drugs they'd found.

As the law stands now, the authorities may obtain cloud e-mail without a warrant if it is older than 180 days, thanks to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act adopted in 1986...A coalition of internet service providers and other groups, known as Digital Due Process, has lobbied for an update to the law to treat both cloud- and home-stored e-mail the same, and thus require a probable-cause warrant for access.
