A Muslim leader says he hopes American values prevail in a two-year battle between the Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Muslim community and people who don't want to see a new mosque built in the city. Judge Robert Corlew ruled Tuesday that plans to construct the mosque are null and void. Corlew said that by not giving people adequate notice for meetings on the proposal the county violated state law when it approved construction plans for the Islamic center. It is unclear whether or not Corlew's ruling means construction of the religious center must halt immediately.

An interesting pamphlet authored by a British Islamic group called Hizb ut-Tahrir calls for a Global Islamic Government to restore "Democracy". Does this conflict with the principle of freedom of religion/association and the separation of church and state? Or should individuals who choose an Islamic System of Government be left alone? The leader of a small Florida church that espouses an anti-Islam philosophy says he is canceling plans to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11. The Rev. Terry Jones said today he had decided to cancel his protest because the leader of a planned Islamic Center near ground zero had agreed to move its controversial location. Any such agreement was unconfirmed. CNN reported that the developers of the mosque complex had denied the location would be moved.

Every two to three years, Eddie Sales trims and prunes the crape myrtles at his church, Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church.

But this year, the city of Charlotte cited the church for improperly pruning its trees.

"We always keep our trees trimmed back because you don't want to worry about them hanging down in the way," said Sales, a church member.

The church was fined $100 per branch cut for excessive pruning, bringing the violation to $4,000.
