The New York Civil Liberties Union today filed a lawsuit challenging a government regulation that unconstitutionally restricts photography on federal property, including public plazas and sidewalks.

US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that prison officials have immunity, shielding them from paying $625,000 in rape damages to Ohio inmate Michelle Ortiz. The woman was punished with solitary confinement for reporting the rape.

Officials say an Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.

Hartfield's current attorney, Kenneth R. Hawk II, recently described the case as a "one-in-a-million" situation in which an inmate has been stuck in the prison system for more than three decades because no one seems to know what to do with him.

Pocatello officer accused of sexual contact with inmate

An Idaho Department of Correction officer has been arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with an inmate at the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center.

Rights advocates filed a class-action lawsuit against Louisiana school officials for repeatedly handcuffing and shackling a 6-year-old boy, attorneys for the advocates said Thursday.

A legal team representing the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana and the child's parents filed the civil-action complaint Thursday at a federal court in Louisiana. It was filed on behalf of children in the Louisiana Recovery School District, including the child, now 7 years old, who they say was handcuffed and shackled for "minor offenses."

The program uses inmate-powered cycles to generate electricity for televisions.
