More than 1.6 million people were arrested for drug offenses in the US last year, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report 2010, and more than half of them were for marijuana. That's a drug arrest every 19 seconds, 24 hours a day, every day last year. The numbers suggest that despite "no more war on drugs" rhetoric emanating from Washington, the drug war juggernaut is rolling along on cruise control.

Michigan drivers could become the first in the nation subject to roadside drug testing under a bill introduced Wednesday in the Legislature.

The legislation would authorize police to administer a roadside saliva test for illegal drug use, just as they do breath tests for alcohol, when they stop a driver suspected of being intoxicated.

The test kit under consideration for Michigan can detect drug use in six categories, including marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.

With American drug use levels essentially the same as — and levels of drug-related violence either the same as or lower than — those in countries like the Netherlands with liberal drug laws, public support for the War on Drugs appears to be faltering. This was most recently evidenced in the victory of major drug decriminalization initiatives in Colorado and Washington. Some misguided commentators go so far as to say the Drug War is “a failure.” Here, to set the record straight, are fifteen ways in which it is a resounding success.

The FDA has effectively banned a naturally-occurring form of vitamin B6 called pyridoxamine by declaring it to be a drug, reports the American Association for Health Freedom. Responding to a petition filed by a drug company, the FDA declared pyridoxamine to be “a new drug.”

A drug for high-risk pregnant women has cost about $10 to $20 per injection. Next week, the price of the progesterone shot, which is administered weekly, will be $1,500 a dose. ATF agents were ordered to stand by and watch as known and suspected drug cartel members bought crates of guns from stores in the US. The guns were then used to kill thousands of people on both sides of the border. Those same stores complained to the ATF that drug members were doing it! What a great way to attempt to get the message across: guns are beeead.

On Thursday, Washington became the first state to officially legalize marijuana, soon to be followed by Colorado as their new laws legalizing the drug for recreational use go into effect. A survey out Friday shows what Americans want the federal government to do about the states whose drug laws clash with national laws: Leave them alone. Fifty-one percent of Americans in the new HuffPost/YouGov poll said that in the two states that have legalized marijuana use for adults, the federal government should exempt any adults following state laws from federal drug law enforcement.

Yes folks, the FDA's fund-raising measures have resulted in drug shortages and the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-benevolent master obamarama has now ordered the FDA to reduce the drug shortages that it successfully prevented by creating in the first place.
