Daily News @ http://RevolutionNews.US — (SEATTLE) King County prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges against Seattle police Officer Ian Birk in the fatal shooting of woodcarver John T. Williams, sources familiar with the decision say.

The Prosecutor's Office is expected to announce the decision in a news conference on Wednesday, the sources say.

The City of Seattle will pay $1.5 million to the heirs and estate of John T. Williams, a Seattle woodcarver shot dead by a Seattle Police in August 2010. It was an emotionally-charged police shooting that say a law enforcement office quit and avoid prosecution. The review commission found the shooting "unjustified," reports the Sun.

FTA: "In the video, Flint Farmer was lying on the grass between the curb and the sidewalk. It was shortly before 2 a.m. on a June morning in the West Englewood neighborhood, and Farmer had been shot by a Chicago police officer. Then, according to the video, the veteran officer, Gildardo Sierra, stepped onto the parkway and walked a semicircle about the prone Farmer as three bright flashes went off. And then the cop-murderer lied to his superiors about the knife being open (it was closed) and the man threatening him (he wasn't even facing the cop). The man, John T. Williams, was also half-deaf and his whittling knife was of a legal size.

A man was fatally shot by police in downtown Seattle on Monday afternoon, according to police.

The shooting occurred on the northwest corner of Boren Ave. and E. Howell St. at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Police said an officer was on patrol when he spotted a man sitting on the sidewalk, whittling, and approached him.

The officer told the man to drop the knife several times, police said, but instead of doing so, he stood up. When the man refused to heed to his commands, the officer opened fire and hit the man.

An eyewitness to a fatal police shooting in Culpeper, Virginia is contradicting the State Police version of the story.
