A suburban Oregon police department is paying a local man $4,000 to settle a civil rights lawsuit in which he claimed he was pulled over for flipping off the cops in traffic.

Twice he saluted with his middle finger while driving, and was pulled over each time by a Clackamas County patrol officer, resulting in what he said was a tongue lashing and “bogus” citations that were later dismissed.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies yesterday punished an "uncooperative" motorist by Tasing him to death. After 43-year-old Allen Kephart was pulled over for allegedly running a stop sign, he got out of his car and failed to show sufficient deference to at least two deputies. He was subdued with a Taser, passed out, and died.

Paul Bechtel gave the rude gesture to his soon-to-be-ex-wife Rebecca during a recent appearance in a Sacramento County family court, which didn’t surprise her. Deputies placed him in cuffs for violating a restraining order against him that called for no communication with her. Giving someone the finger, authorities said, is a form of communication. The gesture also qualifies as harassment, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tim Curran said. “One would consider flipping the bird as harassing somebody, and that’s what the judge believed and he was charged accordingly,” Curran said.

Deputies say they knocked several times on Mapes’ front door and received no response. The front door was unlocked and Mapes’ car was in the garage, according to reports.

When Mapes confronted them with a gun the deputies started backing off. And after she started shooting the deputies said they “thought they were going to die,” according to the arrest report

Sheriff Mike Scott said last week the deputies were at Mapes’ home for “a little more than a welfare check.” The sheriff also defended the deputies for shooting the elderly woman.
