A suburban Oregon police department is paying a local man $4,000 to settle a civil rights lawsuit in which he claimed he was pulled over for flipping off the cops in traffic.

A man who claimed deputies harassed him after he flipped them off has settled a federal lawsuit against Clackamas County.

At least. that's what a new lawsuit in the Sunshine State is claiming.

Last July, Leila Tarantino claims that she was pulled over by an officer with the Citrus County Sheriff's Department. In the suit, Tarantino says she came to a full stop and should have never been pulled over in the first place.

What not to say to a cop when you get pulled over. Interesting reading, though the arrogance and smugness of the cops come through in this piece.

Flipping the bird, or sticking out the middle finger, is perhaps the oldest insulting gesture on earth. The move dates back to ancient Greece and was adopted by the Romans as digitus impudicus — the impudent finger.

I enjoy a good game of "Cops and Speeders" as much as the next scofflaw. It makes driving much more interesting, and I believe actually safer due to enhanced situational awareness. But these cops don't play the game correctly. The object of the game (by "my rules" anyway) is to beat "The Man". Lacking that ticket / beat-down risk factor, apparently these cops just up the speed.

Last December, filmmaker Terrance Huff and his friend Jon Seaton were returning to Ohio from St. Louis. As they drove through a small town in Illinois, a police officer pulled Huff's over for an alleged unsafe lane change. Over the next hour, the police officer interrogated the two men, employing a variety of police tactics aimed at tricking them into giving up their Fourth Amendment rights. Fortunately, this was all recorded.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Boston police officers who arrested a man who used his cell phone to record their alleged use of force against a suspect.

The City of Boston has agreed to pay Simon Glik $170,000 in damages and legal fees to settle a civil rights lawsuit. Glik was arrested in 2007 on Boston Common for using his cell phone to record the arrest of another man. Police then arrested Glik, too, and charged him under the strict Massachusetts wiretapping statute. They eventually dropped the charges, but with the help of the Massachusetts ACLU, Glik filed a civil lawsuit against the city for false arrest.
