This fall a Supreme Court decision could force the police in Florida to require warrants before secretly installing GPS trackers. As of now, they do need a warrant saying it does not violate the Fourth Amendment.

"The police can't be trusted to police themselves," public Defender Howard Finklestein said. "There must be a check on police behavior or it will become an abuse of power. And the check has always been the Fourth Amendment."

A New Zealand court has ruled that search warrants used when 70 police raided the New Zealand mansion of the suspected kingpin of an internet copyright theft ring were illegal. German national Kim Dotcom, also known as Kim Schmitz, was one of four men arrested in January as part of an investigation into his Megaupload.com website led by the FBI. The Suffolk County Superior Court in Boston, MA have summoned a family pet named Sal to "serve" as a juror, and refuse to exempt the cat on grounds of being an animal. I suspect a cat can make as much sense of this country's ludicrous legal system as anyone else.
