In a world where horrible things often happen to good people, it's nice to hear those occasional stories about somebody who went above and beyond the call of duty to help someone in need. And then sometimes they get punished for it, because we're still living in that world, and sometimes karma just decides to take a holiday and leaves us to sort ourselves out.

There was a time when horses were way more convenient, reliable and cost-effective than automobiles. But we stuck with cars through the growing pains, because we knew that cars were only going to get better, while horses would stay the same.That's where we are with "green" technology -- at the awkward stage where we have to wonder if it's all really worth it. It's true that a part of us dies every time we see Dr. Dre doing Dr. Pepper commercials, but in reality we've pretty much accepted that "selling out" is a part of life. Everybody needs to get paid, right?
But sometimes corporate sellouts involve more than cringe-worthy ads and intrusive product placement. This is when selling out starts to get just a bit horrifying.

From Fox 13 in Tampa comes the horrifying story of Nick Christie, a 62-year-old Ohio man who was detained by the Lee County Sheriff's Office for being publicly intoxicated. While Christie's wife asked that he be taken to the hospital, Lee County cops decided instead to...BUT TO THIS DAY, NOBODY HAS EVER BEEN CHARGED WITH A CRIME... (WTF?)

A nurse at the hospital that was duped by a prank call from two Australian radio DJs concerning Prince William's pregnant wife, Catherine, has apparently committed suicide, the hospital confirmed Friday. The nurse "was recently the victim of a hoax call," King Edward VII Hospital said in a media statement. The DJs impersonated Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles in the prank call, in which some details of the Duchess of Cambridge's condition and care were given.

As a third-grader in Winsted, Connecticut, last year, Matthew Asselin was sick -- a lot. He was lethargic and plagued with a persistent wet cough, respiratory infections and painful headaches. As the school year wound down, Matthew's health worsened. In all, Matthew missed 53 days of school. But over the summer, a strange thing happened. Matthew was healthy. He was energetic. "When we put him back in school this year, within three weeks, he missed 10 days with a respiratory infection," Melissa Asselin said. That's when she had an a-ha moment. "When he was out of school, he was well.

When you're a patient, you trust you're in good hands, but even the best doctor or nurse can make a mistake on you or someone you love. "Mistakes are happening every day in every hospital in the country that we're just not catching," says Dr. Albert Wu, an internist at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Medical errors kill more than a quarter million people every year in the United States and injure millions. Add them all up and "you have probably the third leading cause of death" in the country, says Dr. Peter Pronovost, an anesthesiologist and critical care physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Just last week the NY Times was reporting that, yes, there will be rationing of health-care, thanks to the Federal Government. In fact, the NY Times says that this is a good thing. (Huh?!) So let the medical rationing begin!

Mon evening it is being reported that 60 hospitals have been cancelled due to the Federal State taking greater control over the health market.
