Apparently this guy had an illegal pharmacy selling medication for 1/3 the cost.

"Authorities say 66-year-old Lawrence Carl Runke, of Clarksdale, was indicted in the case last April. A Yavapai County Superior Court jury on Jan. 14 found Runke guilty of 12 criminal counts that included conspiracy, money laundering, sale of prescription drugs, possession of prescription drugs for sale and possession of dangerous drugs for sale."

Rep. Mitch Greenlick, from Portland, is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it would be illegal to possess or distribute cigarettes without a doctor's prescription.

"The Washington Times reports that the Food and Drug Administration may soon permit Americans to obtain some drugs used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes without obtaining a prescription allowing patients to diagnose their ailments by answering questions online or at a pharmacy kiosk in order to buy current prescription-only drugs for conditions such as high cholesterol, certain infections, migraine headaches, asthma or allergies..." PROBABLY HOMELESS AND LOOKING FOR SHELTER. A 38-year-old man brought a prescription pill to the police station Monday and asked to be arrested for drug possession. Christopher Dennis Dollar came into the police station lobby and handed the pill to an officer, according to a news release from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department. He told the officer that he needed to be arrested for possession of Xanax without a prescription. Dollars was charged with a third-degree felony for possession of drugs without a prescription.

Katherine O’Connor and her boyfriend were walking home Thursday when she had the asthma attack, but she did not have her inhaler with her. She went to a nearby CVS, hoping to get a refill on her inhaler prescription, but she was denied the refill because she did not have enough money to pay for the prescription. The medicine cost just over $21, and the couple was short $1.99. Brown begged the pharmacist to give his girlfriend the inhaler, as she was on the floor wheezing, but the pharmacist would not give in, he said. This is reminiscent of the TN fire dept. story.

Under the National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting Act signed by President Bush in 2005, more than $50 million has been appropriated to states for programs where doctors and other authorized users, such as police in some cases, can access patient records. Now lawmakers want to extend the reach by crossing state lines and morphing this horrific "act" into a federal program.

The state sheriff's association pushed the idea Tuesday, saying the move would help them make drug arrests and curb a growing problem of prescription drug abuse. But patient advocates say opening up people's medicine cabinets to law enforcement would deal a devastating blow to privacy rights.
