Free Charlie!

http://keepcharliefree.wordpress.com

On Monday, 4 June 2012, I was sitting on my porch, alternating between reading about information theory and Ursula K. le Guinn’s “The Dispossessed”, when the police showed up. It turned out that Darryl had called them on me; he would later admit to being a serial informant. In the search of the premises that followed, the police confiscated 3.2 ounces of cannabis and paraphernalia.

North Dakota Votes to Eliminate All Property Tax

http://www.nytimes.com

“I would like to be able to know that my home, no matter what happens to my income or my life, is not going to be taken away from me because I can’t pay a tax,” said Susan Beehler, one in a group of North Dakotans who have pressed for an amendment to the state’s Constitution to end the property tax. They argue that the tax is unpredictable, inconsistent, counter to the concept of property ownership and needless in a state that, thanks in part to wildly successful oil drilling, finds itself in the rare circumstance of carrying budget reserves.

Southern Poverty Law Center Slanders Michael Boldin

http://www.muslims4liberty.org

It looks like the SPLC needs a serious reality check. Last week they added Founder and Director of the Tenth Amendment Center, Michael Boldin to their list of “Activists Heading Up the Radical Right”. It takes a unique brand of obtuse State worship to put someone who got their start in the peace movement, who is a passionate opponent of the unconstitutional War On Drugs (not exactly staples of the right wing agenda) on same list with Muslim bashing, mouth frothing, war ecstatics like Pam Geller, and Frank Gaffney.

Incredible Images of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989

http://www.theatlantic.com

Twenty-three years ago the Chinese People's Liberation Army violently cleared Beijing's Tiananmen Square of protesters. The demonstration called for democracy and widespread political reform. The protests began in April of 1989, gaining support as initial government reactions included concessions. Martial law was declared on May 20, troops were mobilized and pushed into Tiananmen Square, crushing some protesters and firing on many others. The exact number killed may never be known, but estimates range from several hundred to several thousand.

Ron Paul Storms To Victory In Minnesota Delegate Race

Supporters take full control of GOP in North Star State

Presidential candidate Ron Paul swept the board at the Minnesota State convention this past weekend, winning 12 of the 13 delegates to the Republican National Convention and effectively taking complete control of the party in the state.

Congressman Paul would have won all of the open delegate slots, for the fact that the 13th went to former presidential candidate and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, only after a Paul supporter withdrew his name from the ballot.

Principled activists regain control of Libertarian Party

http://reason.com

The coup began when convention delegates voted "None Of The Above" over entrenched officers seeking re-election as LP Chair. When the position was opened to nominations from the floor and after multiple rounds of rancorous voting, emerging victorious were Lee Wrights for Vice Chair and Geoff Neale for Chair (endorsed by Wrights and Mary Ruwart). The rout continued for other LNC positions, with several longtime conservative operatives thrown out. Among the fresh slate of principled libertarians elected is Starchild, the superactivist from San Francisco.

Jury nullification education still barely 'legal' in USA, rules judge

http://www.naturalnews.com

Jury nullification, a legal concept that dates back to 17th century England, remains perfectly lawful in the United States, according to a ruling by a federal judge last month.
U.S. District Court Judge Kimba Wood said 80-year-old Julian Heicklin, who was arrested by FBI agents for passing out pamphlets marked "Jury Info" from an organization known as the Fully Informed Jury Association to an undercover agent, was within his legal rights under law to do so. Prosecutors had argued that Heicklin was in violation of U.S. law, which prohibits influencing jurors through written communication.

The Dutch Libertarian party has picked up the gauntlet and, for the second time ever, will participate in the next elections. It would be great if we could get some coverage on your site since there are many Liberty lovers that listen to your station and, well, to be honest, many Dutch are tight on donations. We are growing fast and could use some backing to pick up more momentum.
