182 Cyclists Arrested for Maybe Protesting the Olympics

http://www.care2.com

British police clashed with hundreds of cyclists for allegedly riding too close to the Olympic Opening Ceremony on Friday, reports The Guardian. Police, who used pepper spray on the crowd and arrested 182 of the cyclists, claimed that the cyclists’ presence might have disrupted the Olympics, while many of the cyclists insist they had no such intentions. After having their bicycles confiscated, the cyclists, including a 13-year-old, were handcuffed en masse and kept in concrete rooms without windows overnight due to a lack of adequate prison space.

Mexican official: CIA 'manages' drug trade

http://www.aljazeera.com

Allegations about official complicity in the drug business are nothing new when they come from activists, professors, campaigners or even former officials. However, an official spokesman for the authorities in one of Mexico's most violent states - one which directly borders Texas - going on the record with such accusations is unique.

Timothy Brown Speaks Out on Being First Man "Cured" of HIV-AIDS

http://www.democracynow.org

As researchers continue to look for a possible cure for HIV-AIDS, we turn to the remarkable story of Timothy Ray Brown, known in the medical world as the "Berlin Patient." He is the first person believed to have been cured of HIV. "I was diagnosed in 1995 with HIV and I was scared to death because at that point people were dying from the disease itself and also form the only available drug at the time, AZT," Brown recalls. A decade later he was diagnosed with leukemia as well.

DHS-funded video gives tips to survive a workplace shooter.......DUH!

http://www.federalnewsradio.com

Entitled "Run, Hide, Fight," the video depicts a fictional shooting incident at an office building. Personal commentary: While these may be good tips for "the masses", perhaps they should have mentioned early on that if someone (or group) has the Will and the Skill to take the guy on near the beginning of the incident (rather than waiting until they are cornered like rats), even more lives could be saved. But I guess such persons of Will and Skill figure this out in an instant and ignore the official line. Also, as an "follically challenged Male of European-American I feel stereotyped :)

James Holmes may not have been wearing "body Armor" after all....

http://www.sfgate.com

James Holmes _may_ not have been wearing "body Armor" after all.... This matters because if true, then it would have been much easier for an armed defender to stop him. According to this article, "...despite its name, the urban assault vest is not bulletproof, but is simply a vest made for carrying accessories." This possibility needs further research. It is difficult because even days later, police do not seem to be releasing much specific information.

Los Angeles City Council Bans All Medical Marijuana Shops

http://in.reuters.com

The Los Angeles City Council decided unanimously on Tuesday to ban all storefront medical marijuana shops, in a blow to a industry that operates in violation of federal law but has become the largest collection of pot dispensaries in California. The 14-0 vote by the council comes after conflicting court decisions on how far local jurisdictions in California can go in cracking down on the cannabis shops. Some observers say the issue could end up before the state's Supreme Court.
