Has the national DARE organization -- Drug Abuse Resistance Education -- removed the discussion of marijuana from its curriculum? It appears the answer is yes, reports Kevin Shaub at KNDU, NBC TV News in Kennewick, WA.

A Texas mother says she’s outraged after learning that her 7-year-old son’s teacher makes students “pay” to use the bathroom. "I was absolutely appalled," Sonja Cross told NBC 5. "I could not believe it." The J.O. Davis Elementary teacher requires students to pay for trips to the toilet with “Boyd Bucks,” fake money the first-year instructor uses to reward the children for good behavior. Cross said she found out about the unusual system after her son wet his pants during school because he didn’t have enough “Boyd Bucks” for a bathroom run.

I recently sentenced a group of more than twenty defendants on meth trafficking conspiracy charges. All of them pled guilty. Eighteen were ‘pill smurfers,’ as federal prosecutors put it, meaning their role amounted to regularly buying and delivering cold medicine to meth cookers in exchange for very small, low-grade quantities to feed their severe addictions. Most were unemployed or underemployed. Several were single mothers. They did not sell or directly distribute meth; there were no hoards of cash, guns or countersurveillance equipment.

Under the "Smart ID" program, ID badges have been issued with a tracking chip, which students must wear when attending school. The defendant HOA is governed by a board of directors. Prior to the events at issue, the board had established a security department for the development, bought vehicles for the department, fitted the vehicles with oscillating and flashing lights, radar units and audio/video recording equipment. The board adopted a speed limit of 25 mph for all the association's roads. Since violation of the Association's rules is not an "offense" justifying restraint, the plaintiff was entitled to summary judgment on his claim for false imprisonment.
