Daniel Suelo hasn't made a penny in 12 years. He hasn't spent a penny either. He is the subject of the book "The Man Who Quit Money," by Mark Sundeen. In 2000, Suelo had $30 to his name. He left the money in a phone booth and never looked back. Since then, Suelo has lived on public lands, foraging in dumpsters and canyons for food. He welcomes the generosity of others. He doesn't pay taxes. Doesn't accept any form of government welfare. And appears relatively happy. "He is not suggesting or encouraging that anyone else live like him," Sundeen told Brown.

Footage played in court this week shows former student Andre McCollins, then a disabled 18-year-old, strapped to a table and screaming savagely in pain as faculty applied 31 individual jolts of electricity over the course of seven hours. He stays still, apparently not responding or removing his coat, until he is given a shock. He screams and falls to the floor, yelling as he tries to hide under his desk.

While most folks are looking elsewhere, Congress is trying to sneak an absolutely awful "cybersecurity" bill through Congress, permitting ISPs to funnel private communications and related information back to the government without adequate privacy protections and controls. The bill does not specify which agencies ISPs could disclose customer data to, but the structure and incentives in the bill raise a very real possibility that the National Security Agency or the DOD’s Cybercommand would be the primary recipient.

Many libertarians, perhaps most notably Thomas E. Woods, support the decentralization of power from the federal government, including the power of nullification. Many people fear and denounce this power, often because they like the immense power of the central state and are supporters of big government. There are, however, some very real concerns by people who desire freedom as their highest political goal.
