The nosy federal government ran out of luck when it selected me for demographic jury duty. Having been told I'm legally required to fill out the American Community Survey and mail it back, I'm naturally determined to defy authority. The only question is how. Read more »Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein and running mate Cheri Honkala were arrested Oct 16th after trying to gain access to the prsidential debates but lacking proper "credentials". They were held for 8 hours, handcuffed to a metal chair because the authorities didn't want them "wandering around." Staff with the candidates were told that they too would be arrested if they continued to wait on site for the candidate's release.

The DHS officers demanded "papers, please!" and under the threat of detainment for 72 hours we relented. Make no mistake the officers were violating the rights of free sovereign people. The temptation to submit to authority examined by "Compliance" bolsters an authoritarian culture by transforming its leading institutions into servants of power rather than checks on it. But worse, it conceals the presence of oppression by ensuring that most citizens, choosing to follow and obey authority, do not personally experience oppression and thus do not believe – refuse to believe – that it really exists.

Deputies say 23-year-old Nicholas Joseph Caputo had 57 signs from 18 different candidates in his SUV. When asked about them, Caputo said, he was, "Cleaning up the neighborhood". He told deputies he didn't think it was right for the signs to be out because he considered it littering.

Mortensen will now serve 50 hours of community service in order for the judge to dismiss her charge.
Outside the courthouse, people support Susan Mortensen with their own chalk on the sidewalk. However, in court, the officer who reprimanded her back in March says she responded with an attitude and curse words.

LAGUNITAS, Calif. - Four decades ago, Hoffman started some home improvements on his house in the wooded hills of the Marin County town of Lagunitas. He harbored ideas and theories of how people could live more sustainably. He started building. “I guess you could say I had a vision,” said Hoffman. “I had a dream.”
But Hoffman’s vision had one very fatal flaw. He never got permits for any of his projects. His fines have run up to over $200,000, and he’s been ordered to tear down all 30 of his illegal structures by Aug. 1.

The military glorifies the giving and obeying of orders as somehow something good for its own sake, something called "discipline" or "character." I can't judge whether I have either of those things, but I do know the last place I would ever have thought to turn for a career was an institution in which I would have had to do what a bunch of mean bastards said to do simply because they said to do it. That wouldn’t have worked. I'd have ended up a conscientious objector even in peace time.
