Deputies say they knocked several times on Mapes’ front door and received no response. The front door was unlocked and Mapes’ car was in the garage, according to reports.
When Mapes confronted them with a gun the deputies started backing off. And after she started shooting the deputies said they “thought they were going to die,” according to the arrest report
Sheriff Mike Scott said last week the deputies were at Mapes’ home for “a little more than a welfare check.” The sheriff also defended the deputies for shooting the elderly woman.

BELLEVUE, WA – A federal court ruling in Maryland, that the Second Amendment right to bear arms extends beyond the home and that citizens may not be required to offer a “good and substantial reason” for obtaining a concealed carry permit, is a huge victory, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.
Ruling in the case of Woollard v. Sheridan – a case brought by SAF in July 2010 on behalf of Maryland resident Raymond Woollard, who was denied his carry permit renewal – the U.S. District Court for Maryland ruled that “The Court finds that the right to bear arms is not limited to the home.”

The National Gun Victims Action Council:a anti gun group, have called for a boycott of Starbucks on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. They've targeted Starbucks because the popular coffee shop chain has steadfastly refused to impose firearms restrictions above and beyond the gun laws that already exist at their 18,890 locations.
To ensure that the boycott gains no traction, many blogs serving the gun-rights community have designated Feb. 14 as Starbucks Appreciation Day. Please visit Starbucks on Valentine's Day and buy the fanciest item you can. They serve a lot more than coffee.

Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown signed AB144 by state Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, D-Pasadena Monday morning. The bill will make it a misdemeanor to carry an exposed and unloaded handgun in public or in vehicles. Violators could face up to a year in prison or a potential fine of $1,000 when the law takes effect Jan 1.
