Monsanto threatens to sue the entire state of Vermont

http://rt.com

Lawmakers in Vermont are looking to regulate food labels so customers can know which products are made from genetically modified crops, but agricultural giants Monsanto say they will sue if the state follows through.

Monsanto is going mad over the proposal, however, which would also make them unable to label their productions as “natural,” “naturally made,” “naturally grown” or “all natural,” if, in fact, they are not. For the corporation, it would seem that moving products and making money is much more of a worthwhile venture than telling its customers what exactly they are consuming.

How Police Interrogation Works

Introduction to How Police Interrogation Works
There are "Law & Order" addicts everywhere who think they could get a perp to confess. A little glaring, some getting in the guy's face, a revelation that his fingerprints are all over the murder weapon and voilà! He's recounting his crime. In real life, police interrogation requires more than confidence and creativity (although those qualities do help) -- interrogators are highly trained in the psychological tactics of social influence.

http://www.cnn.com

The Hunger Games: A movie about human livestock management

http://silverunderground.com

I can't remember a time my heart pounded so hard during a movie. Maybe it’s because I’m partial to Dianic huntress characters, but when it comes to provoking a purely visceral autonomic response The Hunger Games is probably one of the best films I’ve seen. I walked into the film almost completely unaware of the story. I hadn’t even seen a trailer. If you just want a reading of general enthusiasm I think this film is well worth seeing in the theater, and I left eager for the sequel, but if you’re comfortable reading some spoilers, read on.

JetBlue captain's erratic behavior forces emergency landing, passengers say

AMARILLO, Texas – A JetBlue plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas, on Tuesday after the captain "exhibited erratic behavior," according to a TSA statement.
JetBlue Flight 191, which was headed from New York’s Kennedy Airport to Las Vegas, was forced to make the landing after the pilot reportedly ran up and down the aisles screaming “Say your prayers” after he was locked outside the cockpit, The New York Post reported, citing a passenger.

70 Percent of Ground Beef at Supermarkets Contains ‘Pink Slime’

http://abcnews.go.com

Gerald Zirnstein and his fellow USDA scientist, Carl Custer, both warned against using what the industry calls “lean finely textured beef,” widely known now as “pink slime,” but their government bosses overruled them.
The “pink slime” does not have to appear on the label because, over objections of its own scientists, USDA officials with links to the beef industry labeled it meat.

“The under secretary said, ‘it’s pink, therefore it’s meat,’” Custer told ABC News.

Until Debt Do Us Part: The Business of Modern-Day Grave Robbery

http://www.creditcardassist.com

When Karyn Howard’s father passed away in 2008, she was convinced that it would be one of the hardest things she’d ever have to deal with. Little did she know that a call from Bank of America a few days later was about to make the ordeal much, much worse.

The systematic process of harassing people for debts they don't owe is something the banking industry is becoming known for. It keeps happening because collection departments are able to intimidate people into paying debts of deceased loved ones -- despite the fact that by law, they don't have to pay.

Allen West To Liberals: Get the Hell Out Of The U.S.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com

"We need to let President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, (audience boos) and my dear friend the chairman of the Democrat National Committee, we need to let them know that Florida ain't on the table," West said. "Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America."

Crack Jacket

Court fashion trend?
The man's white jacket looked like a how-to guide for making crack cocaine, with a series of little pictures of a white substance with a spoon, a carton of baking soda and a little pot over a fire. The end product was a "rock," slang for the drug.

People think having a job is a government-preserved right

http://www.workers.org

This article was posted in the comments section of this boing_boing story about a Starbucks barista that posted a job rant on YouTube for which he was later fired (http://boingboing.net/2011/09/21/baristas-starbucks-rant-song-gets-him-f... ).

I thought the FTL family would enjoy parsing the lunacy of a doctrine that many out there fully buy into.
Read it and you'll enjoy gems like this:

"In fact, the right to a job is a matter of law—and has been for 62 years!"
