The Lake County Sheriff's Office was justified in shooting Andrew Lee Scott, the state attorney's office said Tuesday. Scott died in July after deputies opened fire when the 26-year-old answered a knock on his door in the middle of the night with a gun in his hand.

The shooting happened Wednesday night at a home on 10th Street in Altavista. Delma Towler was shot while attempting to walk to her sister's house. She was apparently trying to get away from what she thought was an intruder, trying to break into her house. Towler's funeral is 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Altavista Church of Christ.

Read more »In the Dallas suburb of Garland, a man was killed by police who rammed his vehicle (after initially denying it) and fired 41 shots at the victim. Details are still emerging and stories changing as more details become known. It is reported that a witness recorded some of the incident via cellphone but was forced to destroy the evidence by the police.
