Pro-Marijuana Activists Return From Trip, Find Children Taken By State

http://www.dailymail.co.uk

The parents of two young boys who have dedicated their lives to legalizing medical marijuana are struggling this week to cope with the heartbreaking reality that police have taken away their sons and placed them in foster care.

No charges have been filed as yet and the Rineharts and Ms Caldwell have received more than $5000 in donations from other supporters of medical marijuana legalisation to help pay for legal expenses.

To donate to their legal defense fund, please go to:

The Silk Road is collapsing – did hackers, gov't or Bitcoin kill it?

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk

At 6am this morning, I got an email from one of my sleazier contacts. It simply said "looks like Silk Road has collapsed". I fired the Tor browser you need to connect to the site and, indeed, it wasn't there.

It's Official — Fox News Just Hit Rock Bottom. Hard And Repeatedly.

http://www.upworthy.com

I'm not sure which show makes more sense to be on Comedy Central. Jon Stewart is a pretty funny dude, but smart money says the real comedic geniuses are working at Fox News (buried deep inside the subconsciouses of the Fox anchors).

GrowingYourGreens.com host's home raided!!!

http://www.examiner.com

John Kohler is a gardening celebrity on YouTube and his "GrowingYourGreens.com" shows are played so often in our house I SWORE I'd seen him on TV... but I guess I was mistaken. Still, he is so well-known for his work encouraging people to grow their own food that I'm sure his neighbors know he's not growing pot in his bathroom.

Police taze man after he poured gasoline all over himself

http://www.guardian.co.uk

A man has died after suffering horrific burns in an incident when he was "Tasered" by a police officer while doused in a flammable liquid. Police were called to the home of 32-year-old Andrew Pimlott in Plymouth following a domestic disturbance and told that he was in the garden and had a can of flammable liquid with him. An officer discharged a Taser and, according to eye witnesses, Pimlott was seen "fully on fire from top to bottom". One of the police officers jumped on him to try to put out the flames.

NYC change parking rules then tickets parked cars $115

http://newyork.cbslocal.com

In NYC, an arbitrary stretch of road which previously allowed parking, was suddenly changed to no standing any time. After the change, within 25 minutes, parking enforcement arrived and began issuing $115 parking tickets. When confronted about the sudden rule change and the fact that people did not have time to move, none of them seemed to care.

Furthermore, the official response basically told the owners of those cars that if they didn't like the ticket then they can fight it in court.

Feds spend over $400,000 on underwear that senses cigarette smoke

http://www.examiner.com

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, has granted more than $400,000 to a research project that involves something unconventional. The University of Alabama has received two grants from NIH that total $402,721 to create a monitoring system involving underwear that can detect when a person smokes cigarettes. So far, the project has produced a “very early prototype” of the monitoring system. The current prototype fits like a vest.

By US Government's own definetion, it uses WMDs Every Day...

http://www.forbes.com

When most of us think of weapons of mass destruction, we think of nuclear bombs, or nerve gas, or biological agents. Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was charged with using a WMD after he and his brother allegedly detonated a bomb made from a pressure cooker. How is this possible? Well, as is often the case, the common sense definition and the legal definition are not the same. The "legal definition" smacks of "Thought Crime" to me. To my mind, if you kill a bunch of people, it doesn't matter what weapon you used. it's the results which count....

New Zealand Government Bans 71 Baby Names

http://www.salon.com

New Zealand's government has banned certain baby names. What is even more shocking are the comments below the article where people applaud New Zealand's actions for "saving" the children from their evil parents. I am willing to bet that most of those illegal naming attempts were actually acts of defiance towards the government; activism via naming your baby something that pisses the government off.

SilkRoad On The Verge Of Collapse; Suffering Massive Hyperdeflation

http://au.businessinsider.com

We’ve written on the hyperdeflation problem before. Basically, with Bitcoin prices surging, nobody wants to buy anything, you just want to hold onto your Bitcoins. Conversely, when they collapse, nobody wants to sell. So volatility means nobody wants to transact in Bitcoins, because there’s a good chance that the next day someone will feel like a fool.

Bitcoin Smashes Empires

https://bitcointalk.org

"What follows is my response to a question that was posted on the Rugatu website asking, "What is the legal status of Bitcoin?" After composing this over the course of 10 minutes or so, I realized I liked the response, and decided I want to "polish it up" into a better op-ed style article. Any feedback, positive or negative (though keep it constructive, please) is appreciated.
