http://www.mlive.com

DETROIT — Gun advocates, in competition with Detroit police, offered a buyback program of their own Thursday.

As police conducted a gun buyback event at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 10400 Stoepel in Detroit, about a dozen protesters stood across the street making offers of their own.

"Guns Wanted! Cash" and "Cash for guns," their signs read. They beckoned those in line with their guns concealed in towels and bags, to come across the street for a better price.

Los Angeles City Council Bans All Medical Marijuana Shops

http://in.reuters.com

The Los Angeles City Council decided unanimously on Tuesday to ban all storefront medical marijuana shops, in a blow to a industry that operates in violation of federal law but has become the largest collection of pot dispensaries in California. The 14-0 vote by the council comes after conflicting court decisions on how far local jurisdictions in California can go in cracking down on the cannabis shops. Some observers say the issue could end up before the state's Supreme Court.

NJ Governor will not sign 'Seatbelts for Dogs Bill' calls it 'stupid'

http://www.courierpostonline.com

Christie recently said that a bill that would require pet owners to buckle their animals into seat belts while driving is “stupid,” and that he won’t sign it. No argument here. The bill is an egregious example of nanny-state governing, the product of legislators believing that most anything that crosses their mind can and should be turned into law.

Speed trap? There's an app for that

http://www.cbsnews.com

(CBS News) It's a code all drivers share: A flash of the high beams is a warning there's a speed trap ahead.

But when police in Florida saw one man doing it, he got slapped with a $115 speeding ticket.

His case was overturned, but in some states, it is illegal to warn other drivers there is a speed trap ahead. Arizona and Alaska forbid flashing of high beams, while the states of New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia allow it.

Man Ticketed for Stopping at Red Light

http://www.fox4now.com

When Murphy turned right off Lee Boulevard, almost immediately he ran into a red light...Murphy stopped at that red light, at the edge of an intersection, because he didn't want to run a red light...

While Murphy thought he was obeying the law, the officer cited him for breaking it. Instead of a warning, Rowe gave Murphy a $161 ticket for "improper stopping"

"I think it's very confusing," Murphy told us on June 19. "I think it's very foolish that someone gets a ticket for stopping at a red light."

Murphy snapped a photo of another person he says stopped at the same light.

Chris Christie Calls War On Drugs 'A Failure'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has become the latest leader to condemn the now 40-year-old war on drugs. "The war on drugs, while well-intentioned, has been a failure," Christie said Monday during a speech at The Brookings Institution. "We're warehousing addicted people everyday in state prisons in New Jersey, giving them no treatment." Christie stressed the merits of legislation recently passed by New Jersey state lawmakers that institutes a year of mandatory treatment for first-time, nonviolent drug offenders instead of jail time.
