Embracing Markets, Opposing “Capitalism”

http://c4ss.org

mainstream print and electronic media regularly use “capitalism” to refer to “the economic system we have now.” And it’s relatively common to hear “capitalism” employed as a synonym for “dominance of workplaces and society by capitalists—by the owners of substantial capital assets.” Libertarian principles as I understand them entail support for capitalism in neither of these senses.

$10 million in Silver Bars strewn across the Interstate

http://silverunderground.com

An armored trucked crashed along Interstate 81 and spilled out its cargo of $10 million in silver bars. I thought those armored bank trucks were made of sterner stuff, but carrying that much weight, I guess it’s more likely the silver broke out than the crash broke in. I bet a truck carrying $10 million in paper would have been just fine. It’s a pretty good metaphor. If you think of the controlled economy as an armored truck, when this thing crashes paper money crashes with it, but silver breaks free. It has economic momentum.

The Keynesian thought patten, writ large

http://www.nytimes.com

Let’s get one thing straight: America is not facing a fiscal crisis. It is, however, still very much experiencing a job crisis. In fact, of course, it’s just the opposite: The danger is that the deficit will come down too much, too fast. And the reasons that might happen are purely political; we may be about to slash spending and raise taxes not because markets demand it, but because Republicans have been using blackmail as a bargaining strategy, and the president seems ready to call their bluff.

Honduras Bars Plan for Private Cities

http://www.democracynow.org

The Honduras Supreme Court has struck down a proposal for a number of so-called private cities with their own tax and justice systems. Wealthy landowners had pushed the plan, drawing opposition from human rights groups. Fiat Currency and the Emerging Police State

http://dollarcollapse.com

“Fiat” is money with no intrinsic value beyond whatever an issuing government is able to enforce. When it enjoys a monopoly as currency, fiat inevitably turns the free market functions of money inside out. Instead of being a store of value, the currency becomes a point of plunder through monetary policies such as quantitative easing. Instead of greasing society as a medium of exchange, the currency acts as a powerful tool of social control.
