The Gold Standard Goes Mainstream

An under-reported development of this campaign season is the Republican Party's decision this week to send Gov. Mitt Romney into the presidential race on a platform effectively calling for a new gold commission. The realization that America's system of fiat money is part of its economic problem is moving from the fringes of political discussion to the center.

Bitcoin buyers throw good money after bad

The issue is whether Bitcoin will ever be so widely adopted that it acts like a real, stable currency. Right now, it’s more like a commodity with wild price swings on rumors, articles, anonymous chat-board postings, and well-publicized problems with theft. Most people should wait at least until those issues are resolved. Generally, however, average folks shouldn’t be making direct forays into currency trading; Bitcoin feels a bit like online investing, but it’s more like diving into foreign exchange with even less information on which to make currency calls.

A peer-to-peer currency exchange done without coercive influence is now worth more than the dollar. Which just goes to show that a currency can exist without governmental intervention.

The dollar may fall below 75 yen next year as it becomes the world’s “weakest currency” due to the Federal Reserve’s monetary-easing program, according to long-time partners-in-crime, J.P. Morgan.

Bitcoin P2P Cryptocurrency

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer network based anonymous digital currency. Peer-to-peer (P2P) means that there is no central authority to issue new money or keep track of transactions. Instead, these tasks are managed collectively by the nodes of the network. Anonymity means that the real world identity of the parties of a transaction can be kept hidden from the public or even from the parties themselves.

Washington-Tear Down Your Wall Against Currency Competition

On December 9, 2009, Congressman Ron Paul introduced the Free Competition in Currency Act before the US House. The need for this legislation is a clear indication of how far our financial rights and freedoms have fallen in the United States as much of the world outside Washingtons financial iron curtain already have free competition in currencies.
