UK to Install Satellite Speed Traps

In London and Cornwall, a pilot program has just been launched that combines all the fun of terrestrial speed cameras with the creepy omniscience of GPS. In a nutshell, the program -- called "SpeedSpike" -- uses positioning satellites to track motorists as they travel between traffic cameras. By calculating the time it takes a driver to move from one point to the other, SpeedSpike can determine whether or not the motorist has been speeding.

UK Man Fined £1,500 for Having Radio Playing in Business

A hairdresser has been hit with a £1,500 bill for having a radio on while giving customers a trim.

Manager Neil Hull had bought a music licence from music royalties body, the Performing Rights Society (PRS), which he believed allowed him to play pop music in public.

However, a SECOND royalties collector, the Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), told a court that he needed a further music licence from IT to put the radio or CDs on.

UK Govt says it OK to Send Children Through Body Scanners

All selected children will have to go through the new full-body 'naked' scanning machines being introduced at airports, the UK Government said today.
The Government said in its new code of practise: 'We will be requiring all children who are selected to be screened using the scanners. To do otherwise would risk undermining the effect of these new measures.

School fakes shooting during fire drill

During a fire drill at a middle school in Worcester, England, students aged 10 to 13 looked on in horror as "as a man appeared brandishing a gun and appeared to shoot dead Mr. Kent, their science teacher, as he ran across a field." It was only ten minutes after the shooting that teachers revealed the whole thing to be fake.
