A 23-year-old man who was beaten by three Denver police officers after he questioned their authority to search the trunk of his car says the Justice Department has decided not to charge any of the officers with civil-rights violations stemming from the case. Riverside County Sheriff's deputies pepper sprayed and beat a grandfather to death as he waited to pick up his granddaughter from Norco High School, the family claims in court. The Katzes claim Warburg and others pepper-sprayed and beat Dennis Katz to death on Sept. 22, 2011. He died early the next day. He was 68. They say the grandpa was parked legally on Norco High School property, waiting to pick up his granddaughter, when "RCSD deputies arrived and began to question Mr. Katz while he was seated within his vehicle. Back on June 19, Howard led police on a brief chase before crashing his car and running from officers. They said they had to use force to take him into custody behind a house in northeast Oklahoma City. Officers turned away an ambulance and took him themselves to Southwest Medical Center, where he died four days later. The medical examiner ruled that Robin Howard died from acute pneumonia due to blunt force trauma to the chest; the manner of death has been ruled homicide.Read more »

After the government said he wouldn't be charged, they changed their mind, charging him with "resisting arrest without violence" because he tried to cover his head while the police beat him.
