A 7-year-old boy has been accused of sexual harassment after punching a fellow first-grader in the groin, but the boy's mother says he was acting in self-defense. Tasha Lynch said her son was being choked on a school bus, and has been afraid to go back to school in South Boston ever since. “I think my kid was right to fight back [after he was choked],’’ she said. “He wasn’t doing anything except protecting himself.’’ A spokesman for the Boston public schools confirmed the incident had been classified as possible sexual harassment, but declined to comment it.Read more »

Glendale (CA) city officials are forcing residents to take down mirrors they’ve attached to trees in the public right-of-way so they can better see oncoming traffic while exiting their driveways. Residents say in the absence of any speed-reduction enhancements, such as speed humps, the round convex mirrors are one of the few safety measures they have. City officials, though, say it’s about more than tree damage. City codes don’t allow anything to be attached to city-owned trees or street-light poles. Also, nothing can be placed in the public right-of-way because of liability concerns.Read more »

A South Carolina woman is heading to court for a jury trial over a ticket she was given by police for displaying big, plastic testicles on the back of her pickup truck. Virginia Tice was reportedly given a $445 ticket July 5 that claims she violated the state's obscene bumper sticker law. She was ticketed after pulling into a gas station in her truck with big red fake testicles hanging from the trailer hitch. Police Chief Franco Fuda asked for a jury trial, saying questions of obscenity should be determined by community standards.Read more »
