Meet Sausage the riot dog, an amiable ginger mongrel resident of Syntagma Square in central Athens, who doesn't mind if you show up for a day of mayhem as long as he can join in.
Whenever there's a demonstration, Sausage is there, always taking the side of the protesters and cheerfully lending a sense of comic relief to the occasionally violent proceedings.

Jason Bragg (3 1/2 years) stood on the beach along Kingston Lake and watched as his dog Chloe struggled to pull herself out of the frigid water. Jennifer Jenkins, Jason's pregnant mother, was frantic that she couldn't rush into the lake to save Chloe. Police Chief Donald Briggs Jr. arrived, ripped off his service belt, jumped in the water and began smashing the inch-thick ice as Briggs raced out in waist deep water to rescue Chloe - about 30 feet from shore and crying for help. Briggs was able to reach Chloe, scoop her up and rush her back to the beach, where she was wrapped in a blanket.Read more »

Faced with widespread public outrage and even death threats after the release of a video of a February marijuana raid in which two dogs were shot, one killed and one wounded, by SWAT team members in a family home with a young child present, the Columbia, Missouri, Police Department Monday moved to dampen the uproar.
