Topless women could get prison time under NC proposal

A bill that could send women to prison for going topless in public appears headed for approval by the North Carolina legislature.
Depending if such exposure is judged to be "for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire," the woman could be charged with a felony, punishable by up to six months in prison for first-time offenders. More mundane exposure would be a misdemeanor meriting up to 30 days in jail.

US military expands its billion dollar drug war in Latin America

In the most expensive initiative in Latin America since the Cold War, the U.S. has militarized the battle against the traffickers, spending more than $20 billion in the past decade. U.S. Army troops, Air Force pilots and Navy ships outfitted with Coast Guard counternarcotics teams are routinely deployed to chase, track and capture drug smugglers.

I wish the US government would stop wasting money on this.

Jesse Jackson pushes plan: Have DHS occupy Chicago with the TSA

Don't say we didn't warn ya, but now the long-anticipated plan for armed TSA agents to patrol U.S. cities has been invoked by none other than Jesse Jackson. Today he called on President Obama to unleash "Homeland Security" on the streets of Chicago, a city racked by murders and violence even though it has the strictest gun laws in the country. The only group within DHS that has the manpower to "occupy" a U.S. city is the TSA, a widely-hated government agency which has already begun running roadside checkpoints across the country.

Twitter turning over huge amounts of user data to U.S. government

Social networking giant Twitter has released a new report outlining all subpoenaed, court ordered, and search warranted requests made by the U.S. government for private information about the site's users throughout the past year. And based on the figures, not only is the overall number of such requests steadily expanding, but Twitter is also increasingly being coerced into releasing this confidential data without legitimate probable cause or warrant.
