Kop found guilty of beating handcuffed prisoner

NEWARK -- A decorated Newark police detective whose background was highlighted in a petition the ACLU filed earlier this month seeking federal oversight of the department, pleaded guilty Friday to beating a handcuffed prisoner four years ago.

Vernon Parker, 37, of West Orange, faces eight years in prison for fracturing Shannon Taylor’s eye socket and shattering his jaw during a 2006 assault at the Franklin Street lockup, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino said.

Kop convicted of childmolesting gets less prison time then Marc Emery

CORPUS CHRISTI — A former Corpus Christi police officer took a plea deal on Monday for jail time and probation for molesting a 15-year-old girl last year.

Julian Vasquez, 47, pleaded guilty to three counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony.
As part of the deal, Vasquez was sentenced to 90 days in jail and six years deferred adjudication probation.

Child dies after CPR trained kop refused to give CPR at traffic stop

The NYPD has suspended a cold-hearted Brooklyn cop who failed to help a woman as she frantically drove her dying daughter to a hospital, police said.

Police Officer Alfonso Mendez, 30, who is assigned to the 84th Precinct in downtown Brooklyn, had his gun and badge taken and will likely face a departmental charge for failing to take proper police action, cops said.

Another impaired offduty kop involved in hit/run, yet still walks free

An impaired, off-duty Kennedy police officer struck and critically injured a pedestrian with his car Friday morning on the South Side but remains free while the investigation continues, Pittsburgh police said.

Pittsburgh police and Kennedy officials refused to name the officer. Sources, however, identified him as Frank A. Caligiuri Jr., 40, a 12-year veteran.

He was released "pending charges," police said.

Kop kicks pregnant woman in the gut, jails her, where she miscarries

The Indianapolis Metro Police chief plans to investigate allegations of police brutality involving one of his officers.

An Indianapolis woman is suing the city in federal court. LaDonna Dixon claims the officer beat her so severely during an arrest that she had a miscarriage.

“[He was] punching me, kicking me, after he maced me,” Dixon said.

“This person was angry, was enraged and just beat her,” said Dixon’s attorney, Everett Powell. “I would say it’s a crime.”

Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, the NYPD raided Surreal Estate, an underground party club in Bushwick. Witnesses say that when police arrived, the hosts refused to let them in, demanding to see a warrant. The police then forcibly entered by kicking down doors and breaking through windows. Once inside, some attendees say police unleashed pepper spray.

Another Kop kills a dog during search warrant, find nothing

Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force agents, aided by a uniformed Willits police officer, serving a search warrant at 64 Franklin Avenue on July 27, shot and killed a family pet, an 8-year-old half-pit bull mix named Tonka.

When agents searched the home, they found nothing directly linking the residents to the arrest of Craig Anthony Gelber, the target of the search, according to MMCTF Commander Bob Nishiyama.
