New legislation in Washington state went into effect this week that legalizes for the first time in ages the possession of marijuana. Federal law still says otherwise, though, setting up the Justice Department to make some serious determinations. Even as smoking up became protected by state law in Washington starting Thursday, coast-to-coast prohibition as provided by a long-standing federal ruling remains on the books. An amendment that would make it legal in Colorado for individuals to possess and for businesses to sell marijuana for recreational use has passed.

If you really want to address racism then we need to address two issues, the drug war and the fact that 3 of every 4 black babies is born to an unwed mother. Libertarians are often marginalized, typically by the right, for wanting to legalize drugs. ”Whaddya wanna have HEROIN in vending machines!?!”, as some have ridiculously asked.
And while it’s true that Libertarians don’t support government action for dealing with a drug problem, it isn’t usually true that we think that people should use HARD drugs.

Earlier this month, The Blaze reported on the White House’s new “We the People” tool, which allows people to create their own online petitions on any issue they choose.
If a petition garners 5,000 signatures within 30 days, the White House promises lawmakers will automatically review it and the Obama administration will issue an official response on the subject.
