MicCheckWallStreet, an offshoot of the Occupy movement, staged the demonstration at 5pm. The group's website declared that it is "time we declared independence from Citizens United" – citing the supreme court case which effectively ruled that corporations can make political contributions. A video posted to YouTube shows two people tossing the cash – which MicCheckWallStreet said was in $1 and $5 bills – out of a window above downtown Seattle. Last week they added Founder and Director of the Tenth Amendment Center, Michael Boldin to their list of “Activists Heading Up the Radical Right”. A Daily Paul participant posted this video of the LA GOP convention with some text explaining what was going on. Gives a bigger picture not just the assault on the new chairmen by agents of the ex-chairman. Also, I believe many of the LA police who participated in the violence were at the time moonlighting as security for the ex-chairman, who possibly anticipated using violence against the Paul Supporters. This helps explain why they "just followed orders" under color of law.Read more »
Twenty-three years ago the Chinese People's Liberation Army violently cleared Beijing's Tiananmen Square of protesters. The demonstration called for democracy and widespread political reform. The protests began in April of 1989, gaining support as initial government reactions included concessions. Martial law was declared on May 20, troops were mobilized and pushed into Tiananmen Square, crushing some protesters and firing on many others. The exact number killed may never be known, but estimates range from several hundred to several thousand.Read more »
CU-Boulder students arrested on 4/20 to fight charges on First Amendment grounds. Peacefully exercising their right to assemble, and freedom of speech on the grass of their own public university; these three honest students were taken to county jail. The students pleaded not guilty, and plan to file motion to dismiss. It may, and will go to a jury trial if need be.Read more »
A group of Shreveport police officers manhandling a Ron Paul supporter at the Republican State Convention in Louisiana...he falls down and demands medical assistance. A bit later he demands to file charges, but no one is eager to take the report... Witnesses heard his hip dislocate. An officer walks up to the videographer at around 5:50 and demands his camera as “evidence.” The videographer refused to give it up, but turned the camera off.Read more »
