In the movie Toy Story 3, of all places, the Barbie doll utters this quote in the face of oppression from Lotso, the big purple teddy bear: “Authority should derive from the consent of the governed; not from the threat of force.” Political philosopher barbie? A woman has refused to undergo cancer treatment is now being forced to undergo cancer treatment because supposedly she doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to make to make a valued judgement as to what’s best for her. State regulators today demanded that health insurers submit revised April 1 premium rates for tens of thousands of individuals and small businesses by 3 p.m. Thursday or face stiff fines.
The fines could run to as much as $5,000 a day per carrier, plus $1,000 for each consumer who is unable to buy coverage, according to a letter sent by Insurance Commissioner Joseph G. Murphy this afternoon to Massachusetts insurers.Read more »
