UPDATE: 603 Number Returns! + Announcing SIP Call-In Support

June 18th, 2021 - 10:24pmby FTL_Adminin

UPDATE 6/23: We're back to the 603-283-6160 call-in line! Please get rid of the temporary 202 number we had for a week as it will no longer work.

But that's not the only news.  Now we can accept SIP calls at this SIP address:  sip:ftl@ftl.onsip.com

Don't know what SIP is?  It's a free method of making high quality calls online.  You can now use SIP to call in to Free Talk Live from anywhere on the planet.  If you already know how to SIP, give us a call with your favorite audio-only client.  If you're new, here's an easy way to jump in and try:

The first thing you need is a SIP account and there are multiple free options, such as Linphone.org, sip2sip.info, or onsip.com. I'll walk you through the Linphone account setup, since they run a decent open source SIP client for iPhone and Android in addition to providing free SIP accounts. Visit subscribe.linphone.org and create an account using either your email or phone number. The site will then display your account information, which you can use in any SIP client, not just the Linphone client. In my experience, the iOS Linphone app is pretty good and it's alright on Android. The Sipdroid app is also open source and more reliable on Android than Linphone. Sipdroid is also a quicker setup. Below I provide some setup and connection instructions for both iOS and Android clients:

iPhone users:

1.  Download and run Linphone, a free, open source SIP client.
2.  Login using the account info you created from the Linphone site, or just create a new account through the app. You can also use other SIP account providers' info if you already have it.
3. Press the menu at the top left, choose "Settings" and disable video.
4. You should now be able to return to the dialpad and enter this address to connect to us: ftl@ftl.onsip.com

Android users:

-SIPDROID CLIENT-
1. Download and run Sipdroid, a free, open source SIP client for Android
2. Press the gear icon at the top right. Choose "SIP Account", and enter your Linphone username under "Authorization Username", enter your Linphone password, and put "sip.linphone.org" in under "Server or Proxy".
3. If you've done it right, when you pull down your notifications menu, you should see an entry with a green light next to your username and domain.
4. Return to the main screen and enter "ftl@ftl.onsip.com" into the "Called Party Address" field, and hit the enter button on your Android keyboard. You should then be connected to our studio.

-LINPHONE CLIENT-
1.  Download Linphone, a free, open source SIP client.
2.  Login using the account info you created from the Linphone site, or just create a new account through the app. You can also use other SIP account providers' info if you already have it.nce you complete the account setup, you'll need to change a few account settings to get your calls to work with our system.
3. Once you are at the dialpad, press the menu icon at the top left and press on your account name. Scroll down and disable "Outbound proxy" and disable "Enable ICE".
3. Press the menu at the top left, choose "Settings", Video, and disable video.
4. You should now be able to return to the dialpad and enter this address to connect to us: ftl@ftl.onsip.com
5. If the call doesn't go through the first time, give it a second try. I've noticed that my Linphone app, using the Linphone account, only connects to our studio correctly half of the time.
